| The Savage Text - Two Views of the Bible | |
| I gave this short talk at the annual conference of the Society for the Study of Christian Ethics at Westcott House, Cambridge, in Sept. 2008. It was a 'trailer' for my book The Savage Text which had just been published. There was just time to make a basic point. Anglicans say they have two views about the Bible: the 'guidebook view' and the 'witness view'. I point out that the views are incompatible. Worse, the guidebook view leads to the Bible becoming a savage text. |
